• Please note: when specifying a planting spade with an asymmetric blade, order the left or right kicker assuming the curve of the blade faces away from you (many tree planters use the spade with the curve facing in, but please order the other way)

Choosing the right size planting spade
To be most productive, use a spade that is appropriate to a given ground type. For example, loose easy ground is fastest with a super short spade. Tougher, more technical ground (grass mat) would require more leverage from a longer spade. The spade should never be long enough to bend your elbow.

For easy ground, the spade length should be such that the tip doesn’t touch the ground when standing straight up and with your arm by your side. To determine the length required, simply measure from your palm to almost ground level.

For tough ground, the spade should be as long as possible before it bends your elbow.
